Raphael House of Portland, Multnomah County’s largest domestic violence shelter, holds their sixth annual dine-out fundraiser on Wednesday, May 20th.
The fundraiser is called “Restaurants for Raphael House,” and it involves a record-setting amount of over 30 restaurants. Each restaurant has pledged portions of their proceeds to go toward Raphael House and its mission.
One of the participating restaurants is Mother’s Bistro, owned by the award-winning chef, Lisa Schroeder. Due to her past, Schroeder has a special connection with the fundraiser. “I am survivor and wish I had a place like Raphael House to turn to,” said Schroeder.
The event allows the community to lend a much needed helping hand to individuals in danger. For every $100 raised, a woman and her child are able to have a night of shelter. This is a great opportunity to visit as many of Portland’s cherished restaurants as you're able to in one day while also radically changing other people's lives.
“This is a fantastic opportunity to show local businesses how much their giving back is appreciated by the community, especially in connection with domestic violence, which too often remains an unspoken issue,” says Raphael House of Portland’s Executive Director, Teri Lorenzen.
