Asian Culinary Pop Up Comes to The 19th Hole
Monday, August 31, 2015
The 19th Hole is the mini golf pop up across the street from Hotel deLuxe that gives patrons a chance to play some mini golf, eat delicious cuisine, and toss back a cold one.
At 5pm, Robles will take over the food cart at 19th Hole to make crawfish handrolls, “spam’ sliders, and kimchee-spiked poutine. Guests who are over 21 may choose to pair their meal with an option from the can-only menu featuring craft beers, Oregon wines, and Pacific Northwest ciders.
Earlier this year in June, Chef Robles' pop up, Neesay, took over Lardo’s SE Hawthorn location and was met with instant success. The name, “Neesay,” is derivative of the Japanese word “nisei” that means second generation.
"I borrowed the term ‘nisei’ like I borrow the flavors and techniques I learned during my childhood. Neesay is truly American-born Asian food. My parents immigrated to America for a better life and I was raised in the intersection of the vibrant immigrant cultures that exist within American culture. I spell the name phonetically because, in my food, an ingredient may be Mexican or Thai by origin, but borrowed to create something new,” said Chef Robles.
The Neesay menu at the 19th Hole will feature:
- ‘Spam’ Sliders – three Hawaiian sweet rolls topped with handcrafted prosciutto patties, bone marrow onions, kimchee slaw and sesame seeds ($9)
- Cold Ramen - chilled noodles, summer corn, fire roasted cherry tomato, cucumber, Thai basil, watercress, Arbequina olive oil and toasted peanuts ($10)
- Crawfish handroll made with roasted nori, crawfish tails, macaroni, spinach, kewpie, bacon bits, lemon, dill and togarashi ($9)
- Poutine featuring waffle fries, oxtail gravy, sambal cream, scallion, cotija, cilantro, Neesay onion, kimchee salsa and sesame seeds ($11)
- Fried buttermilk chicken livers, panko, buffalo sauce and blue cheese dip ($8)
The 19th Hole is located at the corner of SW 15th and Yamhill. Chef Robles will be serving food from 5pm until supplies run out. The 19th Hole opens daily at 3pm, Wednesday through Sunday.
