PCC To Host Swan Island Workforce Roundtable

Portland Community College will host a tour of Swan Island Trades Center and a round table discussion on how to meet workforce needs on Swan Island next week.

Portland Community College will convene local industry, business and community leaders to discuss potential opportunities and collaborations to meet the workforce needs of Swan Island and the region's manufacturing sector. 

Attendees and speakers will include Roger Hinshaw, market president for Oregon and Southwest Washington for Bank of America; Ellen Wax, executive director of the Working Waterfront Coalition; Curtis Robinhold, deputy executive director at the Port of Portland; Connie Ashbrook, executive director of the Oregon Tradeswomen Inc.; Susie Lahsene, transportation and land use policy manager at Port of Portland; State Rep. Lew Frederick; Loretta Smith, Multnomah County commissioner; Sylvia Kelley, PCC's interim president; Karin Edwards, Cascade Campus president; and Bob Hanks, executive director of PCC's CLIMB Center. 

The event will begin with a welcome from Cascade Campus president Karin Edwards and tour of the Trades Center with Dan Wenger, dean of the Arts & Professions Division at the Cascade Campus. Group will visit with students and faculty to learn about the impact of the center's programs.

The tours will be followed by the roundtable discussion and a presentation of a donation from to the PCC Foundation from Bank of America and the Working Waterfront Coalition.

The roundtable, entitled "Building Sustainable, Skilled & Diverse Workforces for Swan Island and Beyond,” will be held on Wednesday, January 20 at the Swan Island Trades Center, beginning at 12 PM.
