video: Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai Returns to Portland this Spring

Thursday, January 22, 2015

Cirque du Soleil is once again coming to Portland this spring. A dormant volcano, a mythical forest and an ancient prophesy. This sets the stage for Cirque Du Soleil’s latest arena touring production: Varekai. It will land in Portland early in May.

This Quebec-based traveling circus brings to Portland one of their most popular shows chronicling the adventures of "Icarus," a solitary man who falls from the skies into the lush world of Varekai, taking the audience with him.

The production is a visually stunning meditation on the nomadic soul and the virtue of curiosity. It will be a return engagement for the show that previously played in Portland in 2006 to captive audiences under the big yellow tents that Cirque is famous for. This time out though the show is moving inside Portland's Veteran Memorial Coliseum, allowing for a shorter run than the most Cirque shows that hit town.

The Veterans Memorial Coliseum shows are for eight performances only- May 6-10, 2015. Advance tickets are now available online exclusively to Cirque Club members. Tickets for the general public will be available starting on January 23, 2015. www.cirque dusoleil.com/varekai or 1-800-745-3000.
