Chuck Palahniuk Signing His Newest Book at Powell’s

Chuck Palahniuk, author of the cult classic Fight Club, will be signing copies of his latest novel Beautiful You at Powell's City of Books on Burnside on Saturday November 15 at 2 PM.

Beautiful You (Doubleday) was released last month on October 21. Palahniuk described the premise to an interviewer at this year's San Diego Comic-Con as "a kind of mash-up of the most popular chick lit novels." Beautiful You is intended to be a satirical exploration of modern femininity and consumerism similar to how Palahniuk explored the effect of consumerism on contemporary masculinity in Fight Club. "So it is an absolutely pornographic book," Palahniuk stated.

The novel tells the story of protagonist, Penny Harrigan, a wide-eyed Midwestern transpant living in New York City seduced by multimillionaire C. Linus Maxwell, a man with a mission. Maxwell needs Penny in order to test and perfect his new line of female sex toys, designed to deliver unimaginably powerful orgasms that will have women lining up in droves to purchase one and locking themselves in their rooms to experience unending, mind-bending pleasure, leading to the inevitable collapse of civilization as we know it.

Chuck Palahniuk has written a total of 14 novels since the publication of Fight Club in 1996 and several short stories. 3 of his novels have also been turned into films.

November 25; 2 p.m.; Powell's City of Books, 1005 SW Burnside St. The event at Powell's will be a signing event only. Attendees are required to purchase a copy of Beautiful You at the store in order to join the signing line. Palahniuk will be signing up to two books per person (including Beautiful You). Click HERE for more information.
