Cheatin’ is a unusual hand-drawn imaginative masterpiece that's inspired by James M. Cain’s crime novel Double Indemnity. Jealousy, love, and drama combine to create a entertaining work of art. The adult tale is dialogue free, includes over 40,000 colored drawings ,and has a full length musical score.
In 2012 Plympton launched a Kickstarter to fund Cheatin’. He ended up completing the campaign receiving $100,916, nearly $26,000 past his pledging goal.
Bill Plympton is best known for his 1987 oscar nominated short film Your Face and his 1997 animated comedy I Married a Strange Person! He has also worked with Kanye West, illustrating his 2005 music video Heard ’Em Say.
Cheatin’ was shown at the 2014 Portland International Film Festival and won the Annecy International Animated Film Festival Special Jury Award in 2014. The film will be coming out for a theatrical release, starting in April.
